More than a year ago, the FDA couldn't find enough evidence linking pet food to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), yet the repercussions persist. Recently, KetoNatural Pet Foods sued Hill's Pet Nutrition, claiming collusion with veterinarians to urge the FDA to investigate the potential link between grain-free dog foods and DCM.
The lawsuit argues that Hill's orchestrated the reporting of DCM cases to the FDA through a network of veterinary researchers, some funded by Hill's, including those at Tufts University. Allegedly, the aim was to discredit competitors like KetoNaturals, known for their low-carb kibble, to boost Hill's sales and regain market share lost to smaller pet food companies.
